The Animal Company

Rick and Ellen French have over 50 years of experience in the pet market! Before becoming a store, Rick worked for manufacturers and wholesalers. Ellen started her work in Berkeley in 1974, when she founded Your Basic Bird. The shop is still open today. They opened a thriving tropical fish and bird store in Oakland in 1981 after selling the business and moved on to their next adventure. They were given the opportunity to take over The Animal Company in 2001, and thus began their new business venture.
