Dr. George Alfson (Cornell '40) created the Norwalk Veterinary Hospital in 1942, which was located further north on Post Road in Norwalk. Paul Kahl (Cornell '40), a classmate of Dr. Alfson's, joined him in practice in 1950. Because there were still dairy farms in the area at the time, the partners had to look after both large and small animals. Following the purchase of an existing boarding kennel in 1955, the practice was relocated to its current location. In the middle of a peach and apple orchard, there were four distinct buildings. One of the structures was turned into a hospital. A boarding kennel, a cattery with outdoor runs, and an old farmhouse where McDonald's now stands were among the others.
